Replacement for WEXP: could Crystal Report be a solution ?

HI,

I'm in charge of studying a replacement product for WEXP.
Idealy the new solution should also address the need of document generation for all enterprise data, not only Doors data.
RPE seems to be a good solution for Doors but what about other products like EA (Enterprise Architect), MEGA (www.mega.com), ClearQuest.

Has anyone been able to use Crystal Report with Doors Data ?

Not sure how tools like EA (Enterprise Architect), MEGA and ClearQuest will help you with printing from DOORS. You can possibly integrate with these and try to such data in from DOORS, but doesn't seem like an optimal way to do it.

ClearQuest requires an ODBC compliant database server - DOORS is a proprietary database and does not support ODBC connections (unless Mathias Mamsch has worked out how to do this). Maybe DOORS will become ODBC complaint when it is fully migrated over to IBM's Jazz platform (DOORS version 10 maybe).

RPE is possibly your best bet, it's OK - although, I can still mostly get by without RPE (and it's clunky predecessor 'DocExpress' - RIP), only ever used WEXP occasionally and that was for particularly fussy customers who wanted a work of art to be produced.

Mega and CQ are not possible options....you should pursue RPE, it is the replacement for WEXP. There are plans to support integrations to the Cognos BI tool for dashboard reporting - but not for doc generation.
